IBC Competitive Amateur Boxing
Islington Boxing Club is one of North London’s premier amateur boxing gyms.
The Club has an array of national and international champions and we continue our success with our current team. The Club has excellent facilities which currently comprises of three boxing rings (over two floors), nineteen punch bags, six floor to ceiling balls, two speed balls, three bikes, two treadmills, two cross trainers, sparring gloves, headguards, protectors, skipping ropes, medicine balls etc. We also have a well-stocked weights area and shadow boxing mirrors throughout the gym.
The Club welcomes men, women, boys and girls and encourages all to participate in the sport. Islington Boxing Club was previously known as Islington Boys’ Club, but we felt this name was outdated and discouraged females from joining the club. Our female team now is forever growing, and they are an inspiration to young and old.
Islington Boxing Club prides itself on ensuring that every boxer who competes for the Club has been well schooled and is technically competent. Our competitive team is always very active, and our average win ration is approximately 70% each season. We continually strive to improve, not only as a Club, but for each of our individual boxers. It is the aim of the club committee to improve the facilities, standards and profile of the Club. The Club is always looking to progress, with it’s forward thinking and active boxing oriented committee; this is evident in the progress we have continued to make over the past years.
To participate in our Competitive Boxing section, you must be a member of Islington Boxing Club. We do not offer trials or non-membership tariffs unless invited or asked management prior to first visit. On your first visit to the club (and annually) you are required to complete a basic application form which can be downloaded from the link below. Alternatively, you can complete the same form on arrival to the Club. If this is your preferred option we recommend that you arrive at least ten-fifteen minutes prior to your first session to avoid missing the start of the class.
Sparring gloves are obviously a necessity to participate in all Competitive Boxing sessions. We do have a supply of these; however, we encourage you to purchase your own gloves from the club or if preferred from boxing equipment specialist shops. Please check with the Club for advice on weight/size so we can recommend decent gloves within your budget range. You will also require hand-wraps and a gumshield, which you can purchase from the Club (an array of colours are available)
All of our classes need to be pre-booked and paid for in advance via our booking website.
Islington Boxing Club is affiliated to England Boxing, the National Governing Body (NGB) for amateur boxing in England.
