Recreational Keep Fit Boxing
Our Recreational Boxing and Fitness Classes, which run by Islington Community Sports Academy, are aimed towards anyone who would like to learn the fundamentals of boxing, benefiting from boxing fitness and assisting with mental health without progressing to compete.
If you are interested in training like a boxer in a boxers environment without the full contact combat, but using the same rigorous workouts, then this is the class for you! When done correctly boxing is not just an arm workout, it is a full body workout – legs, core, back, shoulders and arms, as well a cardiovascular workout. Our ICSA Recreational sessions include bag work, skipping, pads, technique and circuits.
As well as achieving a high level of fitness, you will gain confidence and learn self defence techniques. All our Coaches are qualified England Boxing Coaches, all have been enhanced DBS checked, First Aid trained and have participated in the required Safeguarding Courses. Our Coaches will push you as much as possible at the same time being aware of your personal level.
Please note that some of the class days, times and prices may have changed since this video was made a few years ago.
ICSA Recreational classes are the only sessions where you are not required to become a member of the Club, but it would be beneficial to you if you are going to be a regular attendee of these classes to become a member as there is a reduction in price of approximately 35% per session for members.
To attend any of our ICSA Recreational classes, whether a member or non-member, on your first visit to the Club (and annually) you are required to complete a basic application form which can be downloaded by clicking here. Alternatively, you can complete the same form on arrival to the Club, if this is your preferred option we recommend that you arrive at least ten-fifteen minutes prior to your first session to avoid missing the start of the class
All of our classes need to be pre booked and paid for in advance via our booking website.
Sparring gloves are obviously a necessity to participate in all boxing sessions. We supply boxing gloves for all our sessions; however, we encourage you to purchase your own gloves from the Club or if preferred from boxing equipment specialist shops.
Please check with the Club for advice on weight/size so we can recommend decent gloves within your budget range. You will also require Hand wraps which you can purchase from the Club (an array of colours are available).
Our Recreational Classes are suitable for children from the ages of 8+ (must be accompanied by an adult if under 15).
